Emmons N. Jenkins, Jr.

Unity, N.H. — Emmons N. “Skip” Jenkins, Jr., 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Sullivan County Health Care in Unity where he has received the loving care of many over the past two years.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 28, 1926, the son of Emmons N. Jenkins and Dorothy I. Wason, he was raised in the Flatbush section where he was a graduate of the Brooklyn Academy and then attended Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa.

Having met years earlier at Sunapee’s Blodgett’s Landing, on July 11, 1959, Skip was married in New London, N.H. to Judith L. Roberts of Winchester, Mass. During his residence in Garden City, N.Y., he was a 23 year member of the Garden City Special Police and served as Captain 1974 to 1976. He was also a member of the Garden City Presbyterian Church with his family.

He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps enlisting in 1944 and “activated” in the USMC in 1951. Skip was employed by Brooklyn Union Gas Company in Customer Service for over 33 years when he retired in 1982.

While a New Hampshire resident, Skip’s civic contributions included membership on the Sunapee, N.H. Conservation Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment and a member of the N.H. Marine Corp League.

In his early retirement, he resided in Amherst, N.H. for nine years while still summering at the family’s home in Jobs Creek, Lake Sunapee. In 1994, he and his wife embarked on a life long dream and moved to his final residence on Lake Sunapee.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith R. Jenkins of Sunapee, N.H.; his daughter, Leslie J. Kauffman of Holliston, Mass.; son, Steven R. Jenkins of Andover, Mass.; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Justin and Meredith Kauffman, Carolyn and Andrew Jenkins.

Visiting hours will be held at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, N.H. on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A private burial service for the family will be held in New London at the Old Main Street Cemetery.
