Irena “Grammy” Brown

Canaan, N.H. — Irena Brown, 98, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation-Hanover Terrace, where she had been since Sept. 2012. Born in Northfield, Vt. June 28, 1914, the daughter of Don Carlos Stevens and Nina (Caswell) Stevens, she had lived in Canaan for 56 years with her husband Wellington Brown who predeceased her in 2009. She is also predeceased by her son, Robert Pombar; her daughter, June Hayes Leque; and her daughter Phylis Davis.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Pombar; her daughter Katrina Monmaney; grand daughters, Jane Hayes, Sue Cochran, Rhonda Daniels, Don Davis, Michelle Pombar; and several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Irena loved crocheting and attending local craft fairs where she sold her soft safe toys and home made fudge. She is dearly remembered for her fantastic cooking which she loved to share with her friends and family, especially her pies.

There will be no calling hours or funeral, at her request; donations may be made in her memory to Bayada Hospice.

Her family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. David Beaufait and his staff at Doctor’s Who Care for many years of care and recently the nursing staff at Alice Peck Day Hospital, the entire staff at Hanover Terrace Nursing Home and the Bayada Hospice Staff for the wonderful care given to her during the last months of her life.
