David W. Scott
Plainfield, N.H. — David W. Scott, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at the VA Hospital in White River Junction, Vt.
He was born August 26, 1925, in Arlington, Mass. to Sidney M. and Mina Hugo Scott. When David was 13 he moved from Arlington, Mass. to Needham, Mass. After graduating High School he joined the Army Air Corp where he served as a tail gunner on a B-24. During the war he flew nine missions out of Tibenham Air Base that was between Norwich and London England. He was the only tail gunner in his squadron to return from the war. He received the Air Medal along with many other awards, citations and ribbons. His squadron was the 703rd in the 445th Bombardment Group and the 8th Army. For a couple of missions he had a celebrity pilot, none other than the actor Jimmy Stewart. After returning to the states and to complete his AAC service, he served as a sergeant in a South Dakota POW camp for German soldiers, ages 14-44. After being honorably discharged he attended Babson Institute. While living in Rindge, N.H. and Swanzey, N.H. he was a police officer. While living in Plainfield, N.H. he was an active member of the fire department. Throughout his life he worked various jobs but retired from the Federal Aviation Administration based in West Lebanon in 1991. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a fourth generation, 56 year member of Masonic Fraternity where he received an honorary Past Masters designation and the Lewis award. He also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star where he received a Grand Representative award to the State of Rhode Island. He was a proud member of the Bektash Shriners, Legion of Honor and the Valley of Nashua. He served as Treasurer of the Plainfield Historical Society for many years. He was a member of the Plainfield church where he served as the Auditor for a few years.
He was predeceased by wife of 37 years, June L. Furry; parents, Mina H and Sidney M. Scott; brother, Richard M. Scott. He is survived by wife, Nancy P. of Plainfield; a son, Sidney M. Scott and wife, Charlene of Lewis Center, Ohio, a son, Leslie P. Scott of Claremont, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Martine Scott of Naples, Fla.; brother-in-law, Harry H. Pike and wife, Kay of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepchildren, Roy Kimball and wife, Carol of Shrewsbury, Vt., Scott Kimball and wife, Deborah of Springfield, N.H., Sheri Clifford and husband, Charles of Orford, N.H., David Kimball of Lebanon, N.H.; several nieces, nephews and their families.
Calling hours will be held at the Ricker Funeral Home on School Street in Lebanon on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is to be a Masonic service beginning at 6:30 that evening. A funeral service will be held at the Plainfield Community Church on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 10 a.m.
