Concord Post 21 drops first game in Legion tourney

The Concord Post 21 baseball team fell in its American Legion senior state tournament opener to Dover, 7-2, at Holman Stadium in Nashua yesterday.

Connor Ferns drove in Chapin Bassi with a single in the top of the fifth inning to give Concord a 1-0 lead, but Dover responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Seimou Smith scored on a Bassi sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 4-2, but back-to-back singles in the seventh inning with the bases loaded gave Dover three more runs.

Starter Jon Lewis pitched 4.2 innings for Post 21, allowing four runs and six hits. Jake Landry pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing three runs on five hits.

Concord faces Derry today at 9 a.m. at Holman Stadium in a must-win game.
