William J. Malcolm
White River Jct, Vt. — William J. Malcolm, 89, died Sunday evening, June 29, 2014, at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, Vt.
He was born March 31, 1925, in Milton, Mass., the son of Clarence and Helen (Doyle) Malcolm. He graduated from high school in Fairfield, Conn., then enlisted in the Army where he served as a medic in Germany, during WWII. Upon his return to the States in 1946 he founded an insurance company, the Malcolm Agency, Inc, which he ran as owner and president for over 50 years. After his retirement he moved to the Upper Valley, serving as president of the Resident Council at Brookside Nursing Home.
William loved to garden and was a great musician. He played the banjo, harmonica, trumpet and guitar and enjoyed playing Dixieland.
He is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Malcolm, and a sister, Mary O’Donovan.
He is survived by two daughters, Ruth M. Hebert of Essex Junction, Vt. and D’Arcy M. Causey of South Carolina; four grandsons, William J. Malcolm II, Britton D. Johnson, Dalton J. Saddler, and Garrian J. Saddler; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen Powers of Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon, Thursday, July 3 at St. Anthony’s Church in White River Junction. Interment will be in the Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, Conn. at a later date. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements.
