Roderick “Rod” Joseph Maclay II
South Strafford, Vt. — Roderick “Rod” Joseph Maclay II, 57, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 26 2014.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1956, in Lebanon, N.H. and was the son of Roderick Joseph Maclay and Janet Bacon Maclay.
Rod is survived by three daughters, Melissa Maclay of Chicago, Ill., Cassie Maclay of Strafford, and Jolin Eastman of South Strafford; along with six grandchildren; also his father, Roderick J. Maclay and wife, Cindy; his sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Doug Cook of South Strafford.
He attended Newton School and graduated from Thetford Academy in 1974. Rod worked at Dartmouth College for 24 years for the Parking and Security Department.
Although he struggled with alcoholism, he was a lifetime member of the Strafford Volunteer Fire Dept. He was Past Master of the Temple Lodge #54 F&AM, (a Masonic graveside service will be conducted in the spring). He was also a member of the Whitney Chapter No.5 RAM, Skitchewaug Chapter #25, Springfield Council #18, Holy Cross Commandery #12, and the Cairo Shriners of Rutland, Vt.
He found pleasure in hunting and loved his trips to the Maine deer camp and following his favorite New England sports teams especially the Red Sox.
His loving family will be holding a memorial service on Monday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Strafford in Strafford with Rev. Byron Breese officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Temple Lodge #54 F&AM of South Strafford to build up their local scholarship fund or the Strafford Volunteer Fire Dept.
