Letter: Where Was the Tennis Coverage?
To the Editor:
This past weekend, the Valley News sports desk apparently fell asleep! Dartmouth College hosted the 75th annual Eastern College Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Championship. This is a big deal in the world of college tennis, and the competition is breathtaking. Eight very strong teams were entered, with the Big Green grinding out a third place overall finish. On Sunday it was standing room only at the Boss Tennis Center at Dartmouth, the atmosphere was electric and the caliber of tennis was outstanding.
Question: Where was the coverage of the event in the Valley News? Could you at least have sent over a photographer? The Hanover area is a hotbed of tennis, and the Dartmouth teams, both men’s and women’s, deserve all the attention they can get. Men’s head coach Chris Drake has developed into one of the finest mentors in the country, both on and off the court. Same holds true for women’s coach Bob Dallis. Sports Editor Don Mahler recently ran a column wishing for an Ivy League basketball tournament. If Dartmouth hosted it, would the Valley News send a reporter? Answer: You bet! So where were you this past weekend?
