PLACES OF INTEREST

Those seeking to explore Vermont and Strafford history should visit the Justin Morrill Homestead, located on the Justin Morrill Highway (the road that connects the town’s two villages) in Strafford village. An exhibit on Morrill’s life and accomplishments — he was a 19th-century U.S. representative and senator — is in the estate’s carriage house. The Justin Morrill Homestead is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day weekend. There is a $5 admission charge for those over 14. For information, call 765-4484 or 828-3051.
While you’re in the vicinity, take a walk through the village. At one end of the common, perched on a knoll, is the much admired Strafford Town House, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful of New England’s many meetinghouses.
