Town Meeting preview: Three are running for a seat on the Weathersfield Selectboard

Article of note: An article on the town warning asks if voters will raise the business personal property tax exemption from $10,000 to $50,000.

Contested races: There are three people running for one two-year seat on the Selectboard: Joseph Bublat, Kelly O’Brien and Matthew Walasewicz.

Budgets and spending articles: The proposed general fund budget is $1.6 million, of which $1.3 million is expected to come from taxes. The proposed highway fund budget is $1.17 million, of which $946,000 is slated to come from taxes. A separate article asks voters for $335,000 to support the town’s solid waste facility. The proposed Weathersfield School District budget is $7.49 million. If approved, the budget is expected to result in education spending of $20,813 per equalized pupil, which is nearly 1% less than the current year.

When, where and how to vote: The Weathersfield School District will hold its annual meeting in-person at the Weathersfield School, 135 Schoolhouse Road in Ascutney, and online (meet.google.com/ikz-mniv-ogv) on Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. The Town Meeting starts at 12:30 p.m. that day at the school and online. Australian ballot voting will take place on March 7 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Martin Memorial Hall in Ascutney.
