GRANTHAM — A Florida man escaped life-threatening injuries after the big rig he was driving overturned near the Grantham exit on Interstate 89 on Wednesday afternoon. The crash strewed debris and lumber the truck was hauling across the highway and caused the lane to be closed for several hours.

The 36-year-old Miami man was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with “non-life-threatening injuries” after the tractor trailer he was operating rolled over on the northbound lane of I-89 near mile marker 41 in Grantham, New Hampshire State Police said in a news release.

The tractor-trailer was the only vehicle involved in the crash and there were no other injuries reported, according to the news release.

Police said “driver inattention was likely factor” in causing the accident. The driver was also cited for driving without a valid license.

The northbound lane was reopened at around 10:12 p.m., according to a police spokesperson.

State troopers from the Troop D barracks in Concord, joined by officers from the Grantham Police Department and Springfield Police Department, as well as crews from the Grantham Fire Department, all responded to the scene of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation. Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has additional information about it to contact Trooper Kevin Belanger at 603-451-9324 or Kevin.J.Belanger@dos.nh.gov.
