Springfield, Vt.
As the annual event approaches, organizers are looking for volunteers and sponsors.
The snowman competition is already underway. Residents of Springfield and surrounding towns can email a picture of their creation to springfieldrec@hotmail.com, or call 802-885-2727 to have Parks and Recreation Director Andy Bladyka stop by to view their snowman. There is also a category for businesses.
A third category will feature snowmen built at the country club during the carnival. The winners will be announced Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
Carnival-goers should bring their own outdoor equipment. To register for the broom hockey tournament, snow kayaking or cardboard sled races, contact Bladyka at 802-885-2727 or springfieldrec@hotmail.com
The indoor activities will include Wunderle’s One Man Circus, face painting, story time and kids’ crafts. Burgers, hotdogs, chili, fries and drinks will be available for purchase.
Parking for the fireworks will be limited at the country club, but free shuttle buses will run from Riverside Middle School between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, with drop-off at the end of the driveway at Crown Point.
The carnival is put on by Springfield Parks and Recreation, the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center, and local volunteers. For information about sponsorship or volunteering, contact Christian Craig at 802-885-2568 or ccraig@myreccenter.org.
