Secondary accomplishments

The following Upper Valley residents earned awards at the 2024 Central and Southeastern Regional 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl, which was held earlier this month at Vermont State University in Randolph Center:

Novice group (ages 9 to 13): Lori Graham, Randolph, second place.

Junior group (ages 11 to 13): Sophie Fors, Bethel, first place and Thomas Williams, Randolph Center, second place.

Rookie group (ages 14 to 18 and first time participants): Ashton Perkins, North Pomfret, first place; Peter Morig, Norwich, second place; Whitney McClain, Tunbridge, third place; and John McClain, Tunbridge, fourth place.

Senior group (ages 14 to 18): Lizzie Vaughan, Newbury, Vt., second place; Delia Morgan, Woodstock, third place; Bee Wilbur, North Hartland, fourth place; Sylvia Johnson, Tunbridge, fifth place; and Zoe Ramsey, Hartland, sixth place.

There were 17 participants from multiple 4-H clubs including Clever Clovers in Tunbridge, Hartland Cattle Club in Hartland, Middle Branch 4-H Club in Randolph Center, and Rambling Rivers 4-H Club in Newbury.

Lia Stewart, of Norwich, made the Head of School Scholar Honors list for the winter 2023-2024 semester at Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn.

Maximus Romano, of Hanover, made the Honors list for the winter 2023-2024 semester at Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn.

Post-secondary scholarship opportunities

Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of people who worked at the Cone-Blanchard Machine Company for at least five years in a row are welcome to apply for a scholarship from the Cone Automatic Machine Company Charitable Foundation scholarship program. Those interested in an application and learning more about eligibility requirements can send a letter to the Cone Automatic Machine Company Charitable Foundation, P.O. Box 167, Ascutney, Vt., 05030-0167. Applications must be postmarked by May 13 and scholarships will be awarded in June.

Undergraduate college students in two and four-year degree programs, along with students enrolled in certificate/trade programs are welcome to apply for $1,000, $2,500, and $5,000 scholarships being offered by Granite Edvance, a Concord-based nonprofit organization that supports college students and their families. All applicants must be New Hampshire residents and be currently attending a Title-IV-eligible institution, either in New Hampshire or another state. Scholarships will be awarded in five categories: first-year and certificate/trade students, community service, academic excellence, leadership, and opportunity.

Applications are open for Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s Career & Technical Education Scholarship program, which is open to high school seniors who live in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont counties where there is a bank branch. Those students must also currently be enrolled in a technical career program and, after they graduate, will be attending college or a technical school.

The applications for the $1,000 scholarships are due by May 1 and more information can be found at barharbor.bank/scholarships.

Post-secondary acomplishments

The following Upper Valley residents made the dean’s list at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, for the fall 2023 semester: Chrissy Aman, Hanover, economics and mathematics, digital and computational studies; Lucie Detrick, Hanover, English and economics; Merrill Doherty, Hanover, English and history; Grace Wenger, Hanover, biological chemistry, gender and sexuality studies; Isabelle Benson, Norwich, undeclared; Amelia Wallis, Norwich, environmental studies; and Caroline Cassell, Woodstock, sociology and gender and sexuality studies, education.

Beau Morrell, of Sharon, made the dean’s list at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, N.Y., for the fall 2023 semester.
