Man Struck By Vehicle at P&H Truck Stop Dies

Newbury, Vt. — Police said a Ryegate, Vt., man died on Sunday after he was hit by a pickup truck in Newbury.

David Elder, 55, was performing maintenance on an underground storage tank at P&H Truck Stop on Sunday morning when he was struck by a Toyota Tacoma driven by David Gilbo, 33, of Newbury, according to a Vermont State Police news release.

Gilbo had stopped at the station’s gas pumps for fuel and was pulling away from the pumps when he hit Elder, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

Vermont State Police, Woodsville Ambulance, Newbury EMS and the Wells River Fire Department responded to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. The state police accident reconstruction team is assisting in an investigation.
