Grantham, N.H. — Rory George Gordon, 67, passed away at home on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017. Rory was born in New York City on March 7, 1950. One of six children born to Mary T. Gordon and George J Gordon. The family moved to West Hempstead on Long Island, N.Y. where they loved spending time in the city, and summers on the sands of Jones Beach.

Rory attended Fordham University in New York studying Philosophy. On Aug. 19, 1972, Rory married Susan Elizabeth Ripp and soon began a young family. Rory loved adventure, and with his wife and children set out on many journeys. Whether it was camping on the Isles of Lake George, exploring the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, or hiking to the top of an Adirondack peak, Rory loved to travel with his family to beautiful places.

Rory loved the natural world, and his favorite activity was sailing. He loved the peace and serenity of silently moving across open water and of course the sense of danger that many times came along in his sailing trips. He owned a number of small sailboats throughout his life and he would spend much of the year planning and preparing for just a few days of sailing each summer. He loved nothing more than to push off from the beach and let the wind move his soul.

Second to sailing he loved visiting with family and friends. He loved campfires with his nieces and nephews. He loved telling stories on the back porch of Lakeview, and listening to all the great music of the 60’s and 70’s. He was often found flying a kite, assembling a model train, or watching documentaries on TV.

His last and favorite occupation was the many different roles he had working for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He worked in the Health Education Center and was a familiar smiling face at the Rotunda Information Desk.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, his brother, Liam Gordon, and his border collie, Toby.

Rory is survived by his wife of 44 years; children, Gregor (Susan), Michael (Lindsey), Patrick (Erin) and Lauren (James); grandchildren, Edyn, Mary, Charles, Finley, Jack, Thomas, Ellen, and Eyla. He will be dearly missed by a large family including his brother and three sisters; and countless in-laws; nieces and nephews; and other close friends.

In lieu of flowers, Rory would be very pleased by donations to the Lake George Land Conservancy (www.lglc.org) or David’s House in Lebanon, N.H. (www.davids-house.org).

Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, N.H. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 724 Main Street, New London.
