Vermont State Police Say Fire in Bradford, Vt., Started by Kids

Bradford, Vt. — Vermont State Police today determined that a fire that destroyed a South Main Street home Monday night was started by a group of kids. A news release issued this afternoon said the fire at 172 South Main St. “was a result of three juveniles starting small fire(s) in the garage and surrounding property.” The fire caused about $200,000 damage to the home of Robert Nutting, a town official who runs Robert’s Thrift Store. White River Junction — The 23-year-old Windsor woman who police say was slain by her estranged boyfriend was planning on getting a restraining order from court the day she was killed, according to court documents. Police ID Windsor Shooting Victim, Continue Search for Shooter (Updated 4:20 p.m.)

UPDATE AT 4:20 P.M.: Vermont State Police have identified Molly Helland, 22, of Windsor as the victim of this morning's shooting, saying she was discovered on the ground outside her parents' house in downtown Windsor.  Police are continuing to search for Jason Kendall, according to a news release issued by state police. Judge Excludes ‘Confession’ Letter in Bethel Shooting Case

White River Junction — A Superior Court judge has ruled to not allow into evidence a letter that defense attorneys had said could exonerate Emily Perkins, the South Royalton woman accused in a 2011 Bethel shooting. The handwritten letter, purported to have been written by Perkins’ husband Michael before he died of cancer, took responsibility for the shooting that injured a teenage woman and left a Bethel man dead.
