Due to the lack of snow and with temperatures approaching 50 degrees on Wednesday, the NHIAA’s Nordic skiing state championships for Divisions I and II were moved from the White Mountains to the 3.8K course of man-made snow at Hanover’s Oak Hill.

Hanover’s boys team placed third (702 points) and Lebanon was seventh overall (612) in Division II in the meet, a combination of the classic and freestyle races. Gilford won the state championship with a score of 752 points.

In the morning classic race, Hanover’s Nicholas Van Citters was the top Upper Valley athlete with a seventh-place finish of 11 minutes, 27 seconds. Teammates Donovan Van Citters (12th, 12:04), Isaac Fellows (14th,12:19) also Will Parker (16th, 12:26) placed in the top 20. James Barnett was the top Lebanon finisher with a time of 13:28, food for 24th place.

Hanover’s Parker was the top Upper Valley athlete in the afternoon’s freestyle race, with a twelfth-place time of 11:17. Hanover teammates Fellows (14th, 11:23), Nicholas Van Citters (16th, 11:35) and Donovan Van Citters (17th, 11:39) also placed in the top 20. Lebanon’s Barnett led his team with a 23rd-place finish of 12:18.

In the Division II girls competition, Lebanon (710 points) and Hanover (704) placed second and third, respectively, behind state champion Plymouth at 779.

In the classic race, Lebanon’s Olivia Hanna led Upper Valley athletes with a fourth-place finish in 13:09. Hanover’s Heidi Davis placed eighth at 14:18. Also making the top 20: Lebanon’s Mallory Eshbaugh (13th, 15:21), Hanover’s Sophia Mancini (14th, 15:26) and Greta Mancini (15th, 15:29) and Lebanon’s Sophia Mladek (17th, 15:40) and Annabelle Norris (19th, 15:57).

Hanna also led Upper Valley finishers in the freestyle race with a fourth-place at 11:48. Hanover’s Davis finished seventh at 13:11. Also landing in the top 20: Hanover’s Greta Mancini (12th, 13:44), Lebanon’s Eshbaugh (13th, 13:49) and Mladek (14th, 13:56), Hanover’s Sophia Mancini (15th, 14:00), Megan Faris (16th, 14:04), Anna Healey (17th, 14:27) and Lebanon’s Sophie Longacre (18th, 14:38).

The skimeister results — a combination of Nordic and Alpine scores from the various state meets — were also announced. Lebanon’s Barnett placed fourth, the school’ s best showing since 2015 when Emily Perryman won the honor.
