Dartmouth Builds Early Lead, Hangs On vs. NJIT

Hanover — Dartmouth junior Isalys Quiñones led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds, her second double-double of the season, as the Big Green women’s basketball team topped New Jersey Institute of Technology, 81-50, on Sunday at Leede Arena.

Dartmouth completed a 15-0 run in the last three minutes of the first quarter, and took a 46-17 lead into halftime.It led by 35 points in the third quarter and never looked back.

The win extends Dartmouth’s hot start to 4-0 this winter, its best since the beginning of the 2014-15 season. Winless NJIT fell to 0-6.

Kate Letkewicz finished the game with 16 points for the Big Green, including three 3-pointers in the second quarter to extend Dartmouth’s lead before halftime.

But the hosts play slipped in the second half. Dartmouth committed 16 turnovers in the third quarter, which turned into seven NJIT points. The Big Green played six minutes and 29 seconds without scoring, while the Highlanders chipped away at their lead.

Dartmouth led 57-38 after three.

Sunday’s game marked the fourth-straight in which at least three Big Green players have scored double digits; Cy Lippold scored 12 points and Emily Slagle who had 10. Dartmouth shot 52.5 percent from the floor, 55 from 3-point land and 54.5 from the free throw line.

Dartmouth travels to Army West Point on Wednesday, and plays Marist on the road on Saturday.
