Police: Man pulled knife on Lebanon officer

WEST LEBANON — A 36-year-old Barre City man pulled a knife on a Lebanon police officer when the officer attempted to investigate what was reported to be a stolen vehicle in the Target shopping plaza parking in West Lebanon on Friday morning, Lebanon police said.

Richard Atkinson, from Barre City, was charged with multiple felonies, including theft, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a dangerous weapon in addition to a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, after he pulled a knife on a police officer who was trying to detain him in connection with the stolen vehicle, Lebanon police said in a news release.

Also arrested at the scene was Ali Bartlett, 26, who was a passenger in the front seat of what police said was the stolen vehicle. Bartlett. of West Lebanon, faces a drug charge and a charge of giving false information to police.

Both were transported to Grafton County House of Corrections in Unity where they are being held in preventive detention pending arraignment in Grafton County Superior Court, police said.
