Fairlee Town Meeting will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at Samuel Morey Elementary School Gymnasium to act on 11 articles. The water system bond vote, for which there are two articles, will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Fairlee Town Hall.

Fairlee — Despite high hopes that this year’s Town Meeting would take place at the renovated Town Hall building, Fairlee voters will once again gather at Samuel Morey Elementary School, where they will act on 11 articles.

“After more than 20 years of being held at the Samuel Morey School, we had hoped to have the 2018 Town Meeting return to an historic tradition — Town Meeting being held on the second floor of the Town Hall,” Selectboard Chairwoman Catherine McGrath said.

Delays in the delivery of the elevator, which is needed to make the second floor handicap-accessible, have postponed the expected grand opening for the renovated building until later in the spring.

The estimated figures to be raised by taxes for the upcoming fiscal year are $943,828 for the town budget, and $178,538 for the highway budget, McGrath said.

The total municipal taxes to be raised, including water bond and dam payments, are $1,162,578.

The proposed municipal tax rate has increased, from 53.2 cents per $100 of valuation last year to around 55.9 cents, McGrath said.

That translates to a $68 increase for a $250,000 home.

The Selectboard also is asking voters to consider appropriating funds for 24 different regional organizations, including $42,011 to Upper Valley Ambulance for emergency services, $5,250 to the Lake Fairlee Association milfoil eradication program and $5,500 to the Visiting Nurse service alliance of VT and NH/Hospice of the Upper Valley.

The total figure for the appropriations for the 24 organizations is $68,011.

Town offices are nominated and voted from the floor.

Peter Berger is running for re-election to a three-year term on the Selectboard and Georgette Wolf-Ludwig is running for re-election to Town Clerk.

This Town Meeting will be the first for new Town Administrator Tad Nunez, who has come to Fairlee after serving more than 20 years as Hartford’s director of parks and recreation.

On the school side, the 2018 annual Rivendell Interstate School District Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Rivendell Academy gym, in Orford.
