Newport — A 64-year-old Plainfield man who authorities say conspired with his 83-year-old mother to have his ex-wife killed remains held on $1 million cash bail despite a push by his defense attorney to lower that amount.

Maurice Temple appeared on Thursday in Sullivan Superior Court for a hearing on a motion to reconsider his bail.

Sullivan County Attorney Marc Hathaway said on Thursday afternoon that there was a contested hearing that resulted in no change to Temple’s bail amount.

Both Temple and his mother, Pauline Chase, remain held on $1 million bail.

Temple has a final pretrial hearing scheduled for Nov. 7, and Chase has a competency hearing scheduled for that same day.
