HANOVER — Chris Seibel has been removed as Hanover High’s girls lacrosse coach, a month before his eighth season was to begin. Marauders athletic director Megan Sobel confirmed the move in a one-sentence email last week that provided no other details.

Seibel, who guided the Marauders to the 2016 NHIAA Division II title, declined to comment on the record. Hanover finished 9-8 last season with an 18-1 loss at Hollis-Brookline in the division quarterfinals. Seibel’s career record was 101-48.

Seibel has been at Hanover High since 2006 as a student assistance counselor in the guidance department. He’s a licensed mental health counselor and a drug and alcohol counselor. He meets with students and their families and makes referrals to other community resources.

“I fell in love with the counseling field because I could identify with kids making bad choices and how those have an accumulating affect,” he said in a 2018 interview. “You may not end up ruining your life, but you’ll end up limiting your options.”

A Brookline, Mass., native, Seibel was an All-New England player at Springfield (Mass.) College.

Seibel coached Hanover’s boys junior varsity lacrosse team before moving over to the girls youth level as his three daughters — Hannah, Jessica and Molly — began to climb those ranks. He took the Marauders girls varsity job in 2013.

Hannah Seibel played lacrosse at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Jessica plays at Tufts University in Massachusetts, and Molly is Hanover’s senior captain.
