Lesson From the Boardman Ruling

The Vermont Supreme Court shouldn't have had much difficulty endorsing the finding of the Judicial Conduct Board that Windsor County Assistant Judge William Boardman violated the Code of Judicial Conduct. Boardman's conflict of interest -- he arranged the sale of county property in 2007 to a nonprofit on whose board he served -- was so blatant it was impossible for everybody but Boardman to ignore. Although the court accepted the Judicial Conduct Board's recommended punishment a six-month suspension from Boardmans administrative and judicial duties it found insufficient evidence to support a second misconduct charge against him.
