While no one can know with certainty the duration of this recession, it has lasted long enough to alter ever so slightly the composition of the U.S. workforce. Women now make up almost half of all workers and may soon surpass men if recent trends hold. The fact is worth noting, whatever its impact on jobs and households and the relationship between the sexes. If nothing else, it is evidence of just how much the American workplace and society in general have evolved in two generations. See full story

NEWS: Newbury Boy Wins Vermont Spelling Bee

Newbury, Vt. -- Timothy Webb still sounded quite excited last evening, more than 24 hours after the 12-year-old from Newbury Village officially became Vermont's top speller and the state's representative to the National Spelling Bee in May by beating out 44 other contestants at St. Michael’s College in Colchester.
